Mae Elaine Daly
We welcomed a sweet baby girl into the world Wednesday, May 27th at 7:21. Mae was 8 pounds and 1 ounce and was 19 inches long. She has a full head of dark hair and has been a very good baby thus far!

Informational Writing
Students have had lots of practice with informational writing in the last month. I am very impressed with the growth I have seen. Here are some areas that I am seeing growth within:
Being able to formulate solid research questions (many students are finding themselves changing their questions, and this is great. Research always evolves and one question leads to another…they are experiencing this!)
Being able to find sources that will answer our specific questions (here is where the changing of the questions often happens. Students start to research and realize they really want to know something different than they originally thought). We will work more with finding relevant sources next year. Right now we have quite a few random google searchers! We will refine this next year.
Being able to take notes on each source. This includes paraphrasing information! We will continue to work on paraphrasing next year. We need to move away from trying to paraphrase word by word and instead paraphrase ideas and paragraphs after we have read and understood.
Being able to synthesize all the information from all the sources and develop a thesis statement. Right now our thesis statements are very basic, however, we are off to an excellent start in developing what it is we can prove about our topic.
Being able to organize all our research into categories that will support our thesis.
Being able to hook our reader with an engaging introduction and then go on to support our thesis through body paragraphs and a conclusion.
Overall I am very proud of each and every student for the time and effort they have been putting into research and informational writing! I am also excited to build on this next year.
