Track and Field Day

Who: All Prairie Creek 5th Graders
What:  Track and Field Day
When: Thursday, May 7th (Rain date Monday, May 11th)
Where: Prairie High School track

  • We will get to the track at 8:45 and event will begin at 9:00
  • Boys will do running events in the AM and field events in the PM
  • Girls will do field events in the AM and running events in the PM
  • Everyone will need a sack lunch.  If you would like the school to provide one, let me know.  Lunch will be approximately 11:00-11:30.
  • Students get hungry throughout the day, however, so sending some snacks is also a great idea.

SUNSCREEN, WATER BOTTLES and ATHLETIC SHOES are a must.  Our winter skin will burn if we don't put sunscreen on and we get very thirsty too!!  No soda or energy drinks please.

I am sending an information sheet home with students tomorrow.  On the bottom of this sheet we are asking for a few parent volunteers to sit in the bleachers with our kids who are not running or doing field events at any given point.  Mrs. Pickering and I will be running events, therefore, we rely on go to parents to sit with our classes in case there is anyone who needs anything and to supervise.

Let me know if you have questions and look for the orange information sheet to be coming home tomorrow night.

We are looking forward to a fun day!!!

From question to thesis statement

We are in the process of wrapping up the research portion of our research project.  Many students realized the need to revise their question as they began reading and researching.  Some even revised two or three times!

Now we are going to be taking a step back and synthesizing what we learned.  We will ask ourselves the question, "What can I say about my topic?" or "What am I going to be able to prove with all of this research?"  The answers to these questions will lead us to our thesis statement.

Also, our survivor groups are determining where and what to farm and domesticate.  We have realized that fertile soil is necessary, so there are some groups that are finding the need to move.  Our models will begin to represent this shift from hunting and gathering to farming.  Each group is also working to build a google presentation that will highlight all the information they have learned and the decisions they have made.  We will begin presenting these towards the end of the month!

Here are some of the researchers hard at work...
